Our Story

Rooted in Manitoulin. Built on Legacy.

Bousquet Realty’s story is deeply connected to the growth and development of Manitoulin Island.

Our founder, J. James Bousquet, was born and raised on the Island. In 1964, he began his career in the insurance business in Little Current. By 1967, he had become a licensed Realtor® and opened a branch office for one of Ontario’s largest and fastest-growing private real estate firms.

What followed was more than a real estate career; it was decades of community-building.

Shaping the Landscape

For over three decades, Jim was a leader in residential development across Manitoulin and the surrounding area. From the acquisition of raw land through planning, approvals, and final lot sales, he played a pivotal role in the creation of 23 waterfront subdivisions. He also built more than 150 homes and cottages throughout the region.

His work helped families discover the Island, build cottages, establish permanent homes, and invest in the future of the community.

In 1971, he was recognized as “Salesman of the Year” at Halliday Homes, but his lasting legacy is visible in the communities he helped create.

Building the Brokerage

In 1993, Jim’s son Chris joined the insurance brokerage as a licensed broker. Soon after becoming  a licensed Realtor®, Chris and Jim made the decision to establish their own real estate brokerage.

In 1996, J. James Bousquet Realty Inc. Brokerage was incorporated.

Chris obtained his Real Estate Broker designation in 1998, the highest level of real estate licensing in Ontario, further strengthening the brokerage’s leadership.

Together, Jim, Chris, and their team were involved in some of the most significant and complex transactions in the region, including the listing and sale of approximately 55,000 acres of land, for a single client, on Western Manitoulin and Cockburn Island, as well as the highly sensitive 6,000+ acre Carter Bay property.

These projects required experience, discretion, and deep local knowledge, qualities that continue to define the brokerage today.

Continuing the Legacy

In 2013, Chris became Broker of Record.

Jim retired in 2019 after an extraordinary 52-year career in real estate.

Today, Bousquet Realty continues to serve buyers and sellers across Manitoulin Island and beyond. With a head office on the harbourfront in downtown Little Current and a branch office in the heart of Gore Bay, our team remains firmly rooted in the communities we serve.

A Legacy of Stewardship

Real estate on Manitoulin is not just about transactions. It is about land, families, and long-term community growth.

Our story is woven into the Island’s development and we continue to approach every transaction with that same sense of responsibility and care.

We are proud of our history and equally committed to the future.
