About Tehkummah, Ontario
Population: 436 (2016)
Tehkummah Township was incorporated in 1881, with the original settlement being located in Michael’s Bay. However, in 1902, South Baymouth took its place as the main community. Smaller communities now include Tehkummah, Snowville and Michael’s Bay. South Baymouth, locally known as “Sagradawawong” or “The Outlet”, is best known for being Manitoulin Island’s ferry town. It is home to the famous MS Chi-Cheemaun passenger-car ferry that travels between South Baymouth and Tobermory and is operated by the Owen Sound Transportation Company.
